01 — Why these guides

Booking, demystified

The UK music industry was worth £8bn to the economy in 2024 (UK Music, This Is Music 2025), yet most live bookings still run on handshakes and DMs. These guides cut through that: how much to pay a band in your city, how to vet an act, contract basics, what agency commission really costs, and how independent artists get on more stages without a middleman — grounded in the GigXchange Index, the UK gig calendar statistics, the Musicians' Union minimum of £167.16 per musician (April 2026), and the Music Venue Trust's 830+ grassroots venue register.

A 5+ piece band for a corporate event costs about £1,337 (the UK median of 73 fees on the GX Index). A solo or jazz act for drinks costs less; a long evening, a late finish or production adds to the quote. See corporate prices in your city.
Book Christmas parties by early autumn and awards nights or conferences two to three months ahead. Company sign-off is often the real delay, so hold the date with the act while approval runs. Confirm the running order early too. Read the Christmas party guide.
A contract naming both sides, the date, timings and fee; an invoice against it; and, on request, public liability insurance and PAT certificates for their equipment. Most venues ask for the insurance before load-in. Ask for all of it at booking time. Keep copies with the booking. See the invoice generator.
Yes - most function bands and jazz acts offer a background set for drinks and dinner, then a dance set. Put the running order in the brief so the act plans the sets around speeches and awards. See jazz acts for dinner.
Yes - every GigXchange booking has a contract the act can invoice against, and payment is held until after the event, so finance gets a document and the act gets paid on time. VAT is shown where the act is registered. How booking works for organisers.
There are 48 city guides for corporate entertainment, each with the acts for company events, what they cost and the paperwork to agree. Each guide also lists the venues and districts that host company nights and the corporate calendar for the year. Browse every corporate guide.
