About This Open Mic
The Night
Whistle Binkies is an Edinburgh institution — a live-music bar buried in the vaults under South Bridge that's been running for over 30 years. Its Legendary Open Mic is one of the longest-running in the city, hosted every Monday by Chris Buckley (frontman of The Moanin' Bones): a showcase band warms the room from 8pm, then open-mic performers take over at 9pm, rolling into a late jam session in the small hours. Sign-up opens at 8pm at the venue and it's walk-in only — don't leave it late, as the slots fill fast. Entry is free. There's a proper house backline waiting for you (guitar, bass and a drum kit), so you can turn up without lugging your own gear down the stairs. Find it at 4-6 South Bridge, Edinburgh EH1 1LL — right in the Old Town.
