Monkey Barrel Comedy at 9-12 Blair Street in Edinburgh's Old Town is a stand-up comedy club, not a live-music venue. It runs seven nights a week with stand-up, tours, sketch and improv, and has been Chortle's 'Scotland's Best Comedy Venue' since 2020. The Barrel Bar serves pizza and drinks before shows. As a comedy-only programme, it does not host live music, open mic music nights or band bookings.

The Night
Monkey Barrel's "Free For All" is Edinburgh's biggest and best comedy open mic, running every Monday at 8pm in the heart of the Old Town. Register in person between 7pm and 8pm, drop your name in the bucket, and if you're called you get five minutes on the mic — anyone can have a go, from first-timers to established pros trying new bits. It's free, un-ticketed and gleefully unpredictable; just turn up, whether you're performing or watching. The Barrel Bar runs late, so there's plenty of reason to stick around.
