The Night

The Bishop Blaise on Friar Gate in Derby's Cathedral Quarter runs an open mic on the first and third Tuesday of each month, hosted by Dorothy Ella. It's billed as a safe and welcoming space for everyone — heaps of talent and variety, no two nights the same, whether you're a seasoned pro or it's your first time on a mic. There's a house guitar for performers and a PA. Free to play; just come along.

About The Bishop Blaise

The Bishop Blaise is a vibrant rock-and-indie bar on Friar Gate in Derby's Cathedral Quarter, serving a wide range of beers, ales, wines and spirits to a soundtrack of modern indie and classic rock, with a small, pleasant beer garden. Music runs through the week: a fortnightly Thursday open-mic night with a house guitar, karaoke every Friday from 9pm, and live DJs from 10pm on bank holidays and pay weekends. There's a Tuesday pub quiz and 25%-off pizza for NUS cardholders, and the bar stays open late (to 2am Fridays and Saturdays). A genuinely grassroots room — small capacity, around 80 standing — where Derby's rock, indie and acoustic acts find a stage.

Planning Your Tuesday Night
