The Royal Standard occupies a distinctive curved Victorian building from 1862 on the bank of the River Derwent in Derby. After closing in June 2024 under Derby Brewing Company, it reopened later that year under new operator Pub People following an extensive refurbishment, and is now Derby's home for craft and cask ale (one regular plus four rotating cask taps). It hosts a weekly Tuesday open-mic night plus quiz nights and brewers' meet-ups, with a heated courtyard, riverside terrace and an upstairs function room used for events. A reliable grassroots open-mic and small-gig venue right by the river.

About The Royal Standard

About This Open Mic
The Night
The Royal Standard is Derby's premier riverside beer destination — a beautifully restored Victorian corner pub (c.1862) that brought its open mic back for 2026. It runs Wednesday nights from 7:30pm with a full PA and a loan guitar on hand, hosted by Ding, and performers of all types and abilities are welcome. It's free to play, with a huge range of real ales, craft beers and ciders to keep you watered between songs.
What's on stage — equipment and backline at this venue, verified regularly.
