What's On is the national view of grassroots live music in the UK. Right now it holds 1,900 gigs across 79 cities, at 826 venues, over the next four weeks — 407 of them in the next seven days. Every city has its own page with that city's gigs, venues and open mic nights, and this page exists to get you there.

What you will find here is the small end of the circuit: pub back rooms, function rooms, basement bars, community stages and independent venues, most under 600 capacity. What you will not find is arena tours or festival bills. That is deliberate. Those shows are already easy to find, and they are not the part of the industry that is disappearing — the Music Venue Trust Annual Report 2025 counted 78 grassroots venues that stopped putting on live music in the year to July 2025, 30 of which closed altogether. Roughly one every five days.

Listings come from the venues, promoters and artists themselves and are refreshed continuously rather than on a publishing schedule, so a gig added this morning is on the relevant city page this afternoon and drops off by itself once it has been and gone. Most listings arrive without a door price, which is why this page does not claim a proportion that are free — where a price is published we show it, and where a ticket is needed the listing links to it. Open mic nights are the dependable free option in most cities, any night of the week.

If you run a room, put on shows, or play them, the listing is free: claim your venue page, add a gig from any city page, or join GigXchange to book and get booked directly. And if you just want to be told what is on near you rather than remember to check, the weekly email does that — one message a week, the city you choose, nothing else.

Seventy-eight UK grassroots venues stopped putting on live music in the year to July 2025, and thirty shut for good. The single most useful thing anyone can do is turn up. One email a week, the gigs near you, so you know when to.

We publish the data too

Everything on this page comes out of the same UK live music directory our reports are written from. All free to read, free to cite under CC BY 4.0.

The listings, as statistics: this calendar is counted nightly on gig calendar statistics — the day-of-week split, the city league and the Hardest Working Rooms leaderboard — with the unpaid half of the week on open mic statistics. What these stages pay lives on the Pint Index and Gig Pay Anatomy, and the sourced industry sheet is UK market statistics.

Common questions

We are currently tracking 1,900 grassroots gigs across 79 UK cities, at 826 venues — 407 of them in the next seven days. Busiest right now: London (411), Manchester (183), Glasgow (169). Pick your city from the index above for the full list, or browse the complete gig directory for everything beyond this four-week window.
Saturday, with 143 gigs listed nationally this week — as the chart above shows, the weekend carries most of the grassroots circuit. London has the most on this Friday to Sunday (63 gigs). Midweek is quieter for gigs but busier for open mic nights, which cluster on Monday to Wednesday.
Grassroots gigs are often free or a few pounds on the door, but most listings do not publish a price in advance — so where we do not show one, check with the venue before you travel. Where a ticket is needed, the listing links straight to it. Open mic nights are the reliable free option: almost all are free both to watch and to play. If you are the one being booked rather than the one buying a ticket, the Musicians' Union national gig rates set the floor, and our UK gig rates data shows what venues are actually paying.
No, and deliberately so. We list grassroots live music — pubs, back rooms, open mics and independent venues, typically under 600 capacity — not arena tours or festival bills. That is the part of the circuit that is hardest to find, least well covered elsewhere, and most at risk. Coverage is 79 cities and growing; if your town is missing, the full directory reaches further than this four-week view.
Continuously. Listings are imported and re-verified on a rolling cycle, venue opening hours are re-checked automatically, and anything past its date drops off on its own — so this page is current by construction rather than because somebody remembered to edit it. The figures above are read live from the directory at the moment you load the page, not cached from a report.
They are where every act you have paid to see in an arena learned to hold a room. The Music Venue Trust Annual Report 2025 recorded 78 UK grassroots venues stopping live music in the year to July 2025, 30 of them closing for good — roughly one every five days. Turning up is the single most effective thing anyone can do about it: buy a ticket, buy a drink at the bar, and go to a night you have not been to before. More ways to help.
One email a week with live music in the city you choose — nothing else. It is free, unsubscribing is one click, and we never sell or share your address. It exists because the hardest part of supporting a local venue is simply knowing what is on there this week.
Free, and you do not need an account to start. Submit a gig from any city page or the gig directory, and it is verified within 48 hours. Venues can claim their venue page to control capacity, backline and contact details, and list a regular open mic so players can find it. If you are putting on live music for the first time, you will need a PRS for Music licence and, for one-off events, a temporary event notice.
