The Stand Comedy Club Newcastle sits at 31 High Bridge in the city centre, opened on 27 October 2011 as the North East outpost of the Stand group (which began in Edinburgh in 1995). A circa-300-capacity room, it programmes comedy throughout the week, with weekend headline nights that regularly sell out and a steady stream of touring acts and emerging talent. Widely regarded as the North East's premier comedy destination, it's a year-round live-performance venue — primarily stand-up comedy and spoken word rather than band gigs.

About The Stand Comedy Club

About This Open Mic
The Night
Red Raw is The Stand's legendary new-act comedy night, in the club's intimate basement room at 31 High Bridge (NE1 1EW) and running every Wednesday in Newcastle. Doors are at 6.30pm and the show starts at 8pm, running roughly 130 minutes: up to ten new comedians try out material - some treading the boards for the very first time - with a pro headliner to round off the night, all for c. 5 to 6 pounds. Slots are in demand, so it's an online application process rather than turn-up-and-sign, and they're reserved for newer, less experienced acts who haven't performed on Red Raw before. Worth knowing: applications are closed at the time of writing. The Stand reopens them in windows, so check their Red Raw page before planning a set.
