Cobalt Studios is a not-for-profit arts and live-music venue at 10 Boyd Street in Shieldfield, near Newcastle's Ouseburn (NE2 1AP). A creative hub for nearly two decades, artists work in studios upstairs while the ground floor hosts club nights, live shows and creative events after dark. Its programme spans electronic, jazz, world and indie — and it's a regular host of The Late Shows, including free global live music on its top-floor terrace. With an in-house PA, it's a distinctive DIY cultural space supporting emerging and experimental acts.

The Night
Cobalt Studios runs 'Freshly Squeezed', a monthly open mic for new and evolving music and spoken word, hosted by Jayne Dent (aka Me Lost Me). Doors and sign-ups open at 6pm with performances shortly after, and it's a warm, non-judgemental room that welcomes everyone from seasoned performers to first-timers. Cobalt is a not-for-profit cultural hub in Shieldfield; entry is a suggested £3 to keep the lights on, but no one is turned away for lack of funds.
