The Head of Steam Newcastle has been a city-centre institution since 1996, sitting directly opposite Newcastle Central Station at 2 Neville Street (NE1 5EN). Unusually the ground floor is given over entirely to its cask and continental-beer offer, while the basement is one of the busiest live and recorded music rooms in the city — a renowned breeding ground for new talent that programmes indie gigs, punk and rock bands, stand-up comedy and DJ nights. The roughly 80-capacity basement is PA-equipped with a guitar amp on hand, welcoming both originals acts and covers.
