Ye Olde Murenger House is Newport's oldest pub, a striking 16th-century half-timbered building on the High Street with original wooden beams, real ales and a warm, characterful atmosphere. It hosts a long-running monthly Open Mic Spoken Word Extravaganza on a Wednesday evening at 7.30pm, with each edition headlined by a different Welsh writer and an open floor for poetry and music, run as a fundraiser for the Cwtsh Community and Arts Centre on Stow Hill.
