The Night

The Jacaranda on Slater Street is a slice of Liverpool music history — the venue where The Beatles played one of their earliest gigs, still run as a record shop, bar and basement live room. Its long-running open mic is every Sunday from 8pm: a relaxed, free night for musicians of all levels, where you simply arrive and tell a member of staff or the host you'd like to put your name down. The basement stage and decent in-house sound make it one of the city's most-loved open mics.

About The Jacaranda

The Jacaranda on Slater Street (L1 4BW) is one of Liverpool's most historically significant music venues — opened in 1958 by promoter Allan Williams, it was an early haunt of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Stuart Sutcliffe, who played here as The Silver Beetles and painted murals in the basement (still visible) as payment for rehearsal space. Today the roughly 120-capacity venue is busier than ever: live bands play every Friday and Saturday with free midnight shows (Indie Rock Circus on Fridays, Rock N Roll Circus on Saturdays), and open mic runs on Thursdays and Sundays. Jacaranda Records occupies the top floor, making it a full music hub of bar, stage and record shop.

Planning Your Sunday Night

Arrive by 19:30 to sign up for a slot. Entry is free and the open mic typically runs until 23:00. Full backline is provided — just bring your instrument and pedals.
