The Black Rose Tavern is Edinburgh's dedicated rock bar and live gig venue, a wood-panelled room on Rose Street in the New Town decked out with dark furniture, wrought-iron chandeliers and vinyl records. Live rock, metal and alternative music vibrates here late into the night, and the venue runs open-mic nights and karaoke alongside its gigs, drawing a goth, metal and alternative crowd. There's real ale, a global pub-food menu from soup to spicy veggie and chicken plates, a big screen, jukebox and fruit machines, and outside seating. A small but committed grassroots stage — capacity around 70 — for Edinburgh's heavier and alternative acts, minutes from Princes Street Gardens and Waverley station.

About The Black Rose Tavern

About This Open Mic
The Night
The Black Rose Tavern on Rose Street is one of Edinburgh's best-loved rock bars, and it runs a weekly open mic every Tuesday from 9pm. It's a wood-panelled haunt for the goth, metal and alternative crowd, so expect a warm, slightly raucous welcome rather than a hushed acoustic room. Entry is free to play or watch, and there's a house PA to plug into. (The same bar also does Rock Karaoke and a quiz on Wednesdays from 8pm if you fancy a follow-up.)
