The Star and Garter is a legendary independent live-music pub on Fairfield Street, just behind Manchester Piccadilly station. The Grade-listed building reopened as a live-music venue in 1991, with an upstairs gig room that hosts a vast array of touring and local bands throughout the week plus long-running club nights (famously the Smiths/Morrissey disco). A cornerstone of Manchester's grassroots scene, it programmes indie, punk, psychobilly, rock and alternative acts in an intimate c. 250-capacity room.
