The Old Blue Last is one of Shoreditch's most storied grass-roots venues — a refurbished East London pub at 38 Great Eastern Street (EC2A 3ES) with a 150-capacity live room upstairs, owned by Vice since 2004. It programmes live music almost daily, breaking new indie, rock and punk acts, alongside free Friday club nights running until 3am at weekends and the odd live jazz and folk session. A full in-house PA and engineer support performers, and both originals and covers get a hearing. The downstairs bar pulls a young, trend-led Shoreditch crowd; the upstairs stage has launched plenty of bands who went on to much bigger things.
