The Underworld is Camden Town's basement home of rock, metal and alternative music, tucked beneath the World's End pub at 174 Camden High Street. Opened in 1992 in what was once a Victorian public convenience, the 500-capacity room has become the heart of the UK's alternative scene, with a powerful PA and a low ceiling that puts the crowd right on top of the stage. Past bills read like an alt-rock hall of fame — Radiohead, Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age, Placebo, Smashing Pumpkins, The Cranberries and Fall Out Boy all played here. It runs 14+ live shows and 18+ club nights, and remains one of London's essential rooms for emerging and touring punk, metal and hardcore acts.
