Folklore is an independent, award-winning live-music venue and bar at 186 Hackney Road in the heart of Hoxton, East London (E2 7QL), ten minutes' walk from Hoxton station. Open since 2014, it's a gorgeous, characterful space — bare brick walls, an up-cycled natural-wood bar and a candle-lit front room (around 55 capacity) leading to a "secret" 95-capacity live room at the back, for a total capacity of about 150. It champions up-and-coming talent with monthly Thursday jazz nights, Sunday jams, DJs and a packed weekend programme of uniquely promoted gigs, alongside everything from life drawing and yoga to drag comedy. The sound is serious too: Funktion-One in the bar and Void Acoustics in the live room. (Note: the venue has been rebranding as "Falkor".)
