The Bishop Blaise is a vibrant rock-and-indie bar on Friar Gate in Derby's Cathedral Quarter, serving a wide range of beers, ales, wines and spirits to a soundtrack of modern indie and classic rock, with a small, pleasant beer garden. Music runs through the week: a fortnightly Thursday open-mic night with a house guitar, karaoke every Friday from 9pm, and live DJs from 10pm on bank holidays and pay weekends. There's a Tuesday pub quiz and 25%-off pizza for NUS cardholders, and the bar stays open late (to 2am Fridays and Saturdays). A genuinely grassroots room — small capacity, around 80 standing — where Derby's rock, indie and acoustic acts find a stage.
