Northern Quarter is an independent, small-capacity grassroots music venue and bar in the heart of Huddersfield, opened in December 2017 by Sam Hodgson and Michael Acton. It occupies the former Builders Club — an iconic 1960s/70s spot once dubbed Huddersfield's answer to The Cavern. All-standing capacity is capped at 120 (less with seating), and the programme spans live music, sound-system nights, open mics, poetry, workshops, lectures, art installations and theatre, always with the emphasis on the local scene. It pours beers from local breweries including Magic Rock and serves freshly baked, reasonably priced pizza. A house PA and in-house engineer support performers, and both originals and covers are welcome.

The Night
Northern Quarter is an independent live-music venue on Wood Street, and its Wood Street Open Mic is a Huddersfield institution every Thursday. Doors open at 5pm; Monika hosts the early-doors session from 7:30pm to 10pm, then guest comperes take over for a lively, collaborative late-night open mic from 10:30pm right through to 2am. No booking needed — it's first-come-first-served on the night, a stage piano is sometimes provided, and the venue runs a characterful hand-built sound system.
