The Courtyard is tucked into a Grade II-listed former public library just off Pitfield Street in Hoxton. It's a multi-arts space - theatre, music, visual art and independent film - and alongside the main-house theatre it runs a dedicated live music studio, which is the bit that matters if you play.
The gig side is mostly touring and London-based original acts: indie and alternative bands, singer-songwriters and the odd hip-hop bill, booked as standalone shows with tickets sold ahead. It's a seated-theatre organisation at heart, so expect a listening crowd rather than a pub crowd.
