It's a much-loved grassroots venue and social club with a multi-award-winning bar, hosting live music many Saturdays from both local bands and touring artists, alongside left-wing comedy, talks and other events; rooms are available for hire. The Night
The Red Shed is Wakefield Labour Club, the red-painted socialist club on Vicarage Street that has stood since 1966, and its open mic is one of the longest-running in Yorkshire. On the last Saturday of each month the organisers of Wakefield Folk and Music Festival run a ceilidh and open mic night, starting at 8.30pm-ish, and it has been going for more than 30 years. Bring your voice and any instrument you would like to play and join in, or just listen. The same crew also run fortnightly jam sessions at the club, and the club's own diary flags the odd date change, so check it before you set off (in September 2026 the night moved a week early, to Saturday the 19th, for the Red Shed 60 celebrations).
