The Black Horse is a lively city-centre pub at 102–104 Westgate in the heart of Wakefield's Civic Quarter (WF1 1XR), trading since 1818 and named Wakefield's Best Pub 2026 with a Best Bar None accreditation. Weekends are built around live entertainment — a rotating line-up of talented vocalists every Saturday from 6pm, followed by a country-flavoured 'Sunday Sesh' hosted by Matt Hodges with live music and a free supper for guests. Alongside the music it's known for a wide range of ales, cocktails and handmade pizzas, a dedicated function room, and the biggest heated beer garden in the city centre. Open Sun & Fri until midnight, Mon–Wed until 11pm, Sat until midnight; closed Thursdays.

The Black Horse is a lively city-centre pub in the heart of Wakefield's Civic Quarter, a stone's throw from Westgate train station and right on the famous Westgate Run. Its open mic runs every Wednesday evening from 8pm till 11pm, with a different guest host each week — including Beth Goldthorpe on the last Wednesday of the month.
