The Evening Star is a small, much-loved real-ale pub on Surrey Street (55-56, BN1 3PB), a few steps from Brighton station, serving ale on the same spot since 1854. It keeps seven lines of fresh cask-conditioned beer, three still ciders and a dozen keg taps from independent UK, Czech and Bavarian breweries, with patio seating out front. Alongside the beer the pub stages occasional live music and beer festivals — check their social channels for dates rather than expecting a fixed weekly night. A characterful, all-ages crowd packs this intimate room.
