The Ancient Mariner is a neighbourhood pub on Rutland Road in Hove's Poets' Corner, with free live music every Thursday. Four residencies rotate through the month: a traditional Irish session on the first Thursday, a jazz night of 1920s-40s songs on the second, a folk night with a changing line-up of bands on the third, and an unaccompanied sea shanty session on the fourth.
Entry to the Thursday nights is free, and the shanty session invites the room to sing along. The pub also hosts occasional live piano karaoke on Saturdays, played on a real keyboard rather than backing tracks.
It opens from 3pm Monday to Thursday and from midday at the weekend, with food from the kitchen later in the week and roasts on Sundays.
