The Grapes occupies one of Bath's few surviving Elizabethan townhouses at 14 Westgate Street (BA1 1EQ) — an inn since at least 1694 and trading as The Grapes since 1792. It is a refreshingly traditional freehouse with no TVs, no sports screens and no gaming machines, just live music most evenings: a weekly Wednesday jazz session, midweek blues and trad-folk sessions, vinyl DJs on Saturdays and live acts on lazy Sunday afternoons. The bar runs an eclectic, locally focused range of craft beers, ciders, ales, locally distilled gin and vodka and even wine on tap. A genuine grassroots room in the heart of the old city for jazz, blues, folk and acoustic performers, taking originals and covers.

The Night
The Grapes is an independent freehouse in one of Bath's oldest buildings on Westgate Street - voted Best Bar in Bath in 2020 - with live music five or more nights a week. Its open-mic night is Howlin' Hans' Songwriters' Circle on the first Tuesday of every month from 8pm to 11pm: a free, acoustic open mic and song-sharing session hosted by Hans (the pub dog) and his humans, where songwriters play work that is new, old or still in progress in a supportive room, get feedback, jam and meet the local songwriting community. All acoustic artists and performers are welcome - arrive early to put your name down.
The rest of the week
Blues jam on Tuesdays (8pm to 10pm), the Grapes Jazz Session every Wednesday from 9pm, Trad Irish folk session on Thursdays from 8pm, a monthly Bath Skiffle session, vinyl DJs at weekends and live acts on Sunday afternoons - so there is usually a session to sit in on even outside the first Tuesday.
