The Cheese and Grain is Somerset's largest music venue - a 19th-century former market hall at Market Yard in the centre of Frome, opened in its current form in 1998 and run as a not-for-profit, member-owned social enterprise and registered charity whose aim is to boost Frome's social, cultural and economic life. The main room holds 835 standing or 500 seated, with a full in-house PA and sound engineer, and puts on around 130 live performances a year alongside comedy, talks and community events. It has hosted everyone from Joni Mitchell and Robert Plant to secret warm-up shows by the Foo Fighters in 2017 and Paul McCartney in 2022 ahead of Glastonbury, and books rock, indie, folk and blues.
