How to connect ChatGPT or Claude to UK gigsAdd one address to your assistant and ask about gigs, open mics, venues and gig rates in your own words. Free, and read-only until you say otherwise.

TL;DR

Paste https://mcp.gigxchange.app/mcp into Claude, ChatGPT or Codex as a custom connector and your assistant can answer UK live music questions from live GigXchange data.

It takes about 1 minute, needs no keys, and starts read-only. Members can sign in so it also reads their own calendar and bookings.

I have lost count of the Sunday nights I spent scrolling venue pages to find somewhere to play that week. For years that was the job. Now you can ask your assistant, in a sentence, and get an answer from real listings instead of a guess.

The catch with asking ChatGPT or Claude about gigs has always been that they do not know what is on. Their training stops months back, and a web search often turns up stale pages. Connecting them to GigXchange fixes that: the assistant asks our directory directly, the same data behind the gig directory and the open mic finder.

The connector at a glance

8,670+gigs it can search
1,440+open mics
2,820+grassroots venues
£0to connect

Live counts from the same directory the connector reads. Setup takes about 1 minute.

1. What the GigXchange AI connector is

The connector is a small server your assistant can talk to. You add its address once, and from then on, when you ask about UK live music, the assistant fetches the answer from us rather than making it up.

The connector in three cards

Three things worth knowing before you add it.

What it is
An MCP server
MCP is the Model Context Protocol, an open standard for plugging assistants into other services. You never see it: you just ask.
What it reads
Public data, plus yours if you sign in
Gigs, open mics, venues, profiles, press kits and the GX Index. Signed in: your profile, calendar, bookings and invoice status.
What it costs
Nothing
No key to buy, no usage fee on our side. Searching public data does not even need an account.

2. How to add it in 1 minute

You start from inside your assistant, not from GigXchange. The address is the same everywhere:

https://mcp.gigxchange.app/mcp

Where to paste it, assistant by assistant

The address goes in a different menu in each app. Pick yours.

Claude
Settings, Connectors
Choose Add custom connector, paste the address, choose Connect. Anthropic covers plan details in its custom connectors guide.
ChatGPT
Settings, Connectors, Create
Paste the same address and save. Web or desktop app only: the phone app does not support custom connectors yet.
Codex
Settings, Integrations, Plugins, Add
Set the type to Streamable HTTP, paste the address and save.

Signing in (members only)

If you want it to see your own gigs, the assistant opens a GigXchange sign-in page. Log in, read what it is asking for, approve it. The connection then shows under Connected AI assistants in Settings, Integrations, AI. The full walkthrough lives in the help centre.

3. What to ask it, by role

Ask the way you would ask a mate who knows the scene. Answers come back with links, so you can check them yourself.

If you play

Find me open mics in Leeds on a Tuesday with a PA provided, and tell me what time sign-up starts.

Then go further: ask what a pub gig pays in your city and it reads the GX Index rather than guessing. More prompts for players: 12 ChatGPT prompts for gigging musicians.

If you book a venue

Which duos in Bristol are free next Saturday, and what does a duo usually get for a pub gig there?

It checks who has that date free and reads the rate data, then links each member profile. For the rest of a booker's week, see 12 ChatGPT prompts for venue bookers and the AI booking inbox workflow.

If you are an agent or promoter

List grassroots venues in Manchester under 300 capacity that book indie bands, with their gig pages.

Venue pages carry what the venue directory holds on capacity and genres, so you can check fit before you get in touch. Agents and promoters: for agents and for promoters.

If you just want a night out

What live music is on in Glasgow this Friday night?

4. What it can see and do

A new connection can only read. Nothing changes on your account unless you turn that on yourself.

Three rules that keep you in control

Whatever you connect, these hold.

Default
Read-only
It reads your profile, calendar, bookings, invoice status and a count of unread messages. Message contents are never shared. Detail: what it can see.
Your choice
The act-for-me switch
One switch per assistant. With it on it can, among other things, set availability, apply to a gig, send or answer an offer, message and invoice in your name. Full list.
Always
Everything is logged
Every action lands in Assistant activity and sends you a notification. Disconnect ends access straight away.

5. For developers

Endpoint and transport

A remote MCP server over Streamable HTTP at https://mcp.gigxchange.app/mcp. Public tools need no auth; member tools use OAuth.

Server card and registry

The server card is at https://mcp.gigxchange.app/mcp/server-card, and we are listed on the official MCP Registry as app.gigxchange/gigxchange. Plain-text map for AI tools: llms.txt. How our data fits together: the knowledge graph.

Yes, once you add the GigXchange connector. ChatGPT can then search the gig directory, open mics and grassroots venues and answer from that data. Use the ChatGPT web or desktop app: the phone app does not support custom connectors yet. Setup steps: the AI connector page.
Yes. Connecting costs nothing and so does a GigXchange account. Your assistant plan is your own, with Anthropic or OpenAI. Searching public data (gigs, open mics, venues, GX Index gig rates) does not need an account at all.
MCP stands for Model Context Protocol, an open standard that lets an AI assistant look things up in another service (see the official introduction). The GigXchange connector is an MCP server: your assistant asks it a question, it answers from our live data. More on ours: the AI connector page.
Only if you switch it on. Every connection starts read-only. A separate switch lets it act for you, for example applying to a gig or answering an offer, and every action is logged and notified. The full list is in letting your assistant act.
It sees what your assistant reads. When it looks something up, the answer goes to the assistant, so the company running it gets that information under its own terms. Your message contents are never shared. What a connection can read is set out in what your assistant can see and our privacy policy.
