The Flute & Tankard is a small, intimate real-ale pub on Windsor Place, just off Queen Street in central Cardiff, with excellent acoustics and a fine selection of beers. Its upstairs function room hosts regular musical performances — frequently jazz, plus folk sessions such as a Caerdydd Galician session — as well as comedy and open-mic poetry nights for local writers. Gigs typically start around 8.30pm with admission usually £10/£6, and crucially the door charge goes exclusively to the musicians, marking it out as a genuinely artist-friendly grassroots room. There's free parking in Windsor Place after 8pm and it's a short walk from Queen Street station, making it an easy, low-key spot for Cardiff's jazz, folk and acoustic performers.

About Flute & Tankard

About This Open Mic
The Night
The Flute & Tankard on Windsor Place hosts the Broken Speakers Clwb, a monthly Thursday open mic for poetry, prose, spoken word and storytelling. Doors are at 7pm, entry is £2 and includes the raffle, and you sign up on the door — a warm, listening room in one of Cardiff's best-loved real-ale and jazz pubs. The pub's wider programme (jazz, folk and the Caerdydd Galician session) runs around it, so check the venue's what's-on page for this month's date before travelling.
