The Actress & Bishop is a lively independent pub and live-music venue at 36 Ludgate Hill on the edge of Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter (B3 1EH). With a capacity around 600 across multiple rooms (plus an outdoor terrace and a refurbished upstairs event space for c. 200), it runs live music and DJs seven nights a week with free entry downstairs all week. A go-to for local and touring bands across rock, indie and alternative — past bills include Black Foxxes, Krooked Tongue and PINS — it's one of the city centre's busiest grassroots stages.

Its open mic runs on the third Wednesday of every month from 8pm, hosted by Joe Oakes, with free entry and a resident DJ carrying the night on afterwards.
