About This Open Mic
The Night
Troy Bar is a Caribbean community bar on Hoxton Street that's quietly become one of East London's best-kept secrets for live music. Its Spirit & Soul open mic runs every Tuesday from 8:45pm to around 1am, hosted by Hannah Khemoh with Oscar Stieler on keys and a backing of seasoned musicians — so you sing or play over a proper house band rather than a backing track. The room leans into vintage soul, R&B, jazz, funk and acoustic, with the well-known jazz-funk jam taking over on Fridays. A warm, music-literate crowd and a full band waiting for you make this one of the better mics in the city. Find it at 10 Hoxton Street, London N1 6NG.
About Troy Bar
Troy Bar is one of Hoxton's best-loved spots for live music and intimate club nights, at 10 Hoxton Street, London (N1 6NG). Across the week it showcases Soul, Funk, Folk and Jazz, including a well-known jazz-funk jam session on Fridays, with Caribbean food served alongside. Its centrepiece is the Tuesday 'Spirit & Soul' live open mic, every Tuesday 8pm to 12:30am, hosted by Hannah Khemoh with Oscar Stieler on keys and a full house band of seasoned musicians plus backing vocalists. Rather than a bring-your-own-gear mic, singers sign up to perform with the full backing band — drums, guitar, bass and mics are all set up and run by the house engineer, so it plays more like a soul revue than a typical pub open mic. London open-mic crowds here listen attentively; the night suits vocalists and instrumentalists comfortable sitting in with a band.
