About The Prince of Wales
The Prince of Wales (POW) at 467-469 Brixton Road (SW9 8HH), two minutes from Brixton Underground, combines a pub and the adjoining POW club into one of South London's largest music and party venues, anchored by a famous two-tier outdoor roof terrace once dubbed by Time Out 'the best outdoor terrace in London'. The main room is a 1920s Art Deco dancehall with a sprung wooden floor and a heavyweight sound system, and the bulk of the programme is DJ-led — house, disco, reggae and hip-hop, with names like Norman Jay and Gilles Peterson among past guests. On the live side it runs a weekly Thursday Jazz Jam, and it keeps a busy calendar of club nights, comedy and cabaret right through 2026. A loud, late, terrace-led venue rather than an acoustic open-mic room.
