UK Festival Season 2027: The Busiest Weekend Is 30 July to 1 AugustWe checked the 2027 dates of 111 UK music festivals on their own websites and, where an archived record exists, compared each with its last edition. Here is what the season looks like, and what it means if you go, play or put one on.

The short answer

Of the 111 UK music festivals we track, 13 run over 30 July to 1 August 2027, the busiest weekend in our calendar. 52% start in July or August, the typical festival runs four days, and 84% are independent.

Every figure is from our free report, UK Festival Season 2027, built from a list frozen on 31 October 2026. The live list, with every date and a planner, is our UK festival calendar.

Every year the festival season arrives as a blur of line-up announcements, and every year someone asks the same question in a group chat: which weekend is the busy one? So we counted. We built a calendar of UK music festivals and only kept a festival once we had read its 2027 dates on its own website, never a listing site. By 31 October 2026 that was 111 festivals. Then we looked up each one's last edition on an archived copy of its site in the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine, to see how the season has moved.

It is a tracked calendar, not a census of every festival in the country, so everything below is a share of those 111. That is also why we froze it: a figure that keeps changing is not one you can quote.

1. What the 2027 Season Looks Like

The Busiest Weekend: 30 July to 1 August

Thirteen of the festivals we track run over the weekend of 30 July to 1 August 2027, including Kendal Calling, Camp Bestival, Y Not, Cambridge Folk Festival and the National Eisteddfod of Wales. The next busiest, 28 to 30 May, has eleven, and eleven weekends have five or more festivals running at once. A festival counts on a weekend if it runs on the Saturday or the Sunday.

July Is the Peak Month, Then August

Counting each festival once, in the month it starts, 34 begin in July and 24 in August: 52% of the season in two months, and 67% between June and August. The calendar opens in November 2026, with five festivals in November and December, and closes in late October 2027. Between festival weekends the grassroots circuit carries on all year: our UK gig statistics count it.

Each of the 111 festivals we track, counted once in the month it opens.

The Typical Festival Runs Four Days

Counting the first and last day, the middle festival in our calendar runs four days. Four days is the most common length, and 75% run three to five days. Only 7% are one-day events, which tells you as much about which events had confirmed their 2027 dates by our freeze date as about the season itself.

Folk Leads Our Calendar

Folk is the most common tag (38% of festivals), then indie (22%) and rock (21%). Read that as the shape of what we track, not of the whole UK festival market. If you play folk, indie or rock, our tools for artists and public profiles are how promoters find you outside festival season.

The South West Holds the Most

The South West has the most festivals in our calendar (18%), then Scotland and the South East (12% each). Every UK nation and English region has at least one. A region with few entries may simply have festivals we have not confirmed yet; the calendar grows as dates are published. For the rooms that host live music all year in each region, see the UK gig directory and our census of the grassroots circuit, State of the Circuit 2026.

84% Are Independent

We call a festival major when a large promoter group owns it, and 18 of the 111 are. The other 93 are independent: charities, councils, family-run events and small companies. The independents are under pressure. The Association of Independent Festivals counted 20 UK independent festivals cancelled, postponed or taking a fallow year in 2026 as of 10 June, a count so far rather than a full-year figure. Pollstar, which reported it, puts the UK-wide total at 43 festivals in 2025 and a record 78 in 2024 (reported by Pollstar). A calendar of festivals still running cannot show that loss, which is why we quote it. Ownership is not always clear-cut: Live Nation, Gaiety and SJM bought a 45% stake in Boomtown in 2022 while its founders kept the majority (Pollstar).

2. How Festivals Moved Since Their Last Edition

Most Festivals Kept Their Weekend

97 festivals could be compared with their last edition, read on an archived copy of their own website. 77 kept the same weekend, even if they gained or lost a day, and 90 kept the same length; 5 got longer and 2 shorter.

17 Festivals Moved a Week Later, About Half for the Bank Holiday

Seventeen moved a week later, and two a week earlier. About half of the later moves follow the late May bank holiday, which falls on 25 May in 2026 and 31 May in 2027: eight of the seventeen, including Bearded Theory, Field Day and Love Saves The Day, are built around it and move with it. It is also why 28 to 30 May is the second busiest weekend. If you plan around last year's dates, check this year's.

Glastonbury Back After a Year Off

Glastonbury returns in 2027 after its planned fallow year in 2026, the one festival in our calendar coming back from a year off. The comparison covers the same festivals in both years, so it cannot say whether the season grew or shrank, and we do not compare ticket prices, because price tiers and what a ticket includes change every year.

3. What It Means for You

If You Are Going

The late-July weekend is crowded, so if two of your festivals clash, that is where it will be. The festival calendar shows every date and flags clashes, and the smaller independents are where your ticket goes furthest. Between festivals, the open mic finder is the cheapest live music there is.

If You Play or Crew

On the busiest weekends, festivals compete for the same acts, crews and suppliers, so 30 July to 1 August is the one to have booked early. We cannot tell you what festivals pay: our GX Index does not yet hold enough festival fees to publish one. For other gigs, the Index shows what UK acts are paid now. Read how much gigs pay in the UK and the latest GX Index issue; starting out, try how to get gigs. Promoters putting on their own event can start at GigXchange for promoters, and venues at GigXchange for venues.

4. How We Built It

Festivals came from listings and news, and stayed only once their dates were read on the festival's own website. The list was frozen on 31 October 2026; last editions were read on archived copies of each festival's own site through the Internet Archive. The full method, the tables and an 11-page PDF are in the free report, UK Festival Season 2027, under CC BY 4.0. Our methodology sets out how we build every data release. For the wider industry, see State of UK Live Music 2026, our UK music market statistics and UK Music's research reports. Every report we publish is in the reports library.
