Newcastle ‌‌‍University Students' Union, on Kings Walk in the heart of the city, is one of Newcastle's largest and most popular live-music venues — gigs and club nights are open to the general public as well as students. The main live room, the Basement arena, holds around 1,200, and over the years it has hosted touring indie and guitar acts including Embrace, The Charlatans, Travis and Primal Scream, plus regular DJ-led dance nights in the Basement and Global Café.
