Matt & Phred's is one of Manchester's best-loved jazz clubs, an intimate room at 64 Tib Street in the Northern Quarter (M4 1LW) that has been a fixture of the city's live-music scene for decades. It puts on live music every night of the week — jazz, blues, soul, funk and brass — alongside stone-baked pizza and cocktails, with a full backline including house drums and an upright piano and an in-house sound engineer. Monday is free-entry open mic night, giving emerging players a friendly, appreciative room to perform in; the club is open Monday to Saturday and some Sundays (capacity around 180).
