The Chester Tavern describes itself as a modern community pub and acoustic music venue, sourcing guest cask and craft beers from independent breweries not commonly found in the area. The ground floor is fairly spacious with an attractive timber bar and retained original fireplace recesses; a central staircase leads to a large upstairs room with its own keg bar. At the back is a large Mediterranean style beer garden with a covered area and bar hatch. The pub dates from 1855 and reopened free of brewery ownership in August 2022.

The Night
The Chester Tavern's open mic night runs on the last Tuesday of every month. The pub also holds a separate acoustic traditional folk session in the lounge on the second Tuesday of each month, which is open floor rather than booked. Booked acoustic artists play Thursday evenings and Sunday afternoons, and there is monthly comedy upstairs on the first Wednesday. Start times are not published, so check the pub's Facebook page.
