Ye Olde Chequers Inn is a timber-framed pub on Tonbridge High Street, just below the castle. The present building dates from the late 15th century and is often called one of the finest examples of a Kentish timber-framed building still standing. Inside it is a long bar with exposed beams and heavily leaded windows looking out onto the High Street. The pub offers home-cooked food, accommodation and regular entertainment, and hosts Tonbridge Folk Club on the first and third Mondays of the month.

The Night
Tonbridge Folk Club meets on the first and third Mondays of each month, 7.30pm to 10.30pm, at Ye Olde Chequers Inn. Musicians, singers and audience welcome, floor spots arranged on the night. A hat collection is held on guest nights with a suggested minimum of 8 GBP (6 GBP concessions). Programme on the club's own site runs to 7 December 2026.
