The Scotia Bar on Stockwell Street is reputed to be Glasgow's oldest pub, built in 1792 on one of the city's four original streets when the Clyde was a major shipping route. Long the haunt of Glasgow's musicians, actors, poets and political groups, it programmes hand-picked live acts — primarily rock and blues — four nights a week, Thursday to Sunday, and has hosted players of the calibre of Pentangle and members of Van Morrison's band, with Billy Connolly and Gerry Rafferty among its past performers. With its low ceilings, worn beams and L-shaped bar it's an atmospheric, music-first room that suits rock, blues and folk acts. It now trades as a Belhaven/Greene King pub.
