About This Open Mic
The Night
The Effra Social is a community-run former working men's club in the heart of Brixton, and its open mic runs on the first Thursday of every month from 8pm until late (around 11:45pm). It's strictly live — no backing tracks — with three songs per performer (two on busy nights), a great in-house PA, two mics and a mixing desk set up for multi-instrument input. A warm, characterful hall and an easy, supportive crowd make it one of South London's nicer monthly slots.
About The Effra Social
The Effra Social is an ex-Conservative-Club turned buzzing community bar and nightlife venue at 89 Effra Road, Brixton (SW2 1DF), run as a reclaimed working-men's-club for the people of Brixton. It hosts DJs, artists, performers and events every day of the week — rotating DJs every Friday and Saturday, monthly comedy and one of Brixton's best pub quizzes. Its free monthly open mic runs on the first Thursday from 8pm to 11:45pm, live instrumentation only (no backing tracks), up to three songs per act, supported by a good in-house PA with two mics, mixing desks and multi-instrument input. Confirmed active into 2026.
