Victory Through Sound was born in the winter of 2015 in Brighton, sparked by Andy Vaughan’s (Boy Girl Soup) ambition to craft widescreen expansive guitar melodies and lyrical storytelling. The band caught early attention in 2016 when they were approached by Lester Square (guitarist for Adam and the Ants and The Monochrome Set). Together they co-wrote the instrumental “Ricochet, ” and Vaughan would later feature on Square’s solo album Serotonin. Soon after, Victory Through Sound released “Circus Girl, ” featuring guest vocals from James Atkin—frontman of global chart-toppers EMF and Ivor Novello Award winner. Musically, Victory Through Sound blend melodic, guitar-driven post-punk with the introspection of 90s indie. Their lyrics wander through philosophical musings, artistic name-drops, nautical tragedy, and faded Hollywood glam—an evocative mix of the cerebral and the cinematic. In 2017, the band made their debut appearance at Brighton’s globally renowned showcase festival, The Great Escape, in association with End of the Trail Records and Fierce Panda. Since then, they’ve supported Britpop legends Echobelly (via Lout Promotions) and Liverpool cult heroes Space. The debut album Chapter and Universe was recorderd between Brighton and Brixton, working with producer and drummer Stephen Gilchrist (Graham Coxon, Cardiacs, Republica). Released in 2024, the album marks a bold, confident step forward. The new single, Hey! Bones, is out now.
