Two London guitarists, fifty years on from their first tour, share a stage in Acton Billy Ocean's touring guitarist Vic Linton reunites with his 1970s bandmate Dave Plotel as The Bush All-Stars play St Mary's Acton on Friday 26 June. Guitarist Vic Linton, who toured the world with Billy Ocean through the 1980s, plays St Mary's Church, Acton, on Friday 26 June 2026 alongside Dave Plotel, the guitarist who replaced him in soul group TheReal Thing fifty years ago. The two are oldfriends and have formed a new quartet, The Bush All-Stars. Plotel joined the Liverpool soul group from Ronnie Scott's in the mid-1970s, taking Linton's seat on guitar. The two became friends through the handover and toured behind David Essex in 1975. They have also backed Ben E. King, Percy Sledge, Eddie Floyd, Arthur Conley and Jimmy Helms on UK tours. Those tours were the Suddenly and Tear Down These Walls era. Linton also worked with Total Contrast and on the Caribbean House Party albums before moving home to the Caribbean. He returned to London in 2023. Plotel led a jazz fusion trio in London and has continued to release solo records into the 2020s. Earlier in his career he played in psych-rock band Icarus; his guitar solo on "Spiderman" appears on the cult album The Marvel World o f Icarus. The Bush All-Stars is their first sustained project together since the 1970s. The set leans toward Vintage funk, soulful jazz and smooth soul, built around twin guitars rather than the chart material of their earlier careers. They play with bassist Nick Gordon, a jazz graduate of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama whose credits include the Wales Millennium Centre, Brecon Jazz, and BBC Introducing sessions, and drummer Terry Tetteh-Martey, who grew up playing in church.
