Our MissionMake access to live music work depend on talent and reliability, not connections

Executive summary

GigXchange's mission is to make access to live music work depend on talent and reliability, not connections. The UK's grassroots booking layer runs on who-you-know networks; GigXchange replaces that with open infrastructure — discovery, contracts, protected payment and verified reviews — that any artist, venue, agent, promoter or organiser can use on equal terms.

Where the mission came from: Why GigXchange exists. Where it leads: Our vision.

The mission, stated precisely

Remove the gatekeeping and coordination failure that decides who gets booked in UK live music. In practice that means three commitments: open access (any qualified participant can join and be found — no curation gate deciding who is visible), equal rails (every member uses the same booking workflow, contracts, payment protection and review system, with no pay-to-win placement), and earned reputation (visibility and trust built from verified, completed bookings rather than relationships or spend).

Why this is a company mission and not a slogan

Every structural decision in the business traces back to it. The no-commission model exists because commission funds gatekeeping. The GX Index exists because pay opacity disadvantages whoever has the least information. The public directories exist because a closed contacts book was the original gatekeeping instrument. Where a revenue opportunity conflicts with open access — selling placement, charging for visibility, taxing the transaction — GigXchange has structurally declined it.

Who the mission serves

All five roles in the booking economy, deliberately: artists get discovered on merit; venues programme rooms without depending on a fixed circle of acts; agents and promoters run professional operations on proper rails instead of email chains; and organisers — the wedding, party and corporate bookers — get direct access to a market that previously required an intermediary. The multi-role design is itself a mission decision: infrastructure that only served one side would just relocate the gatekeeping.

How progress is measured

By whether the rails are used: members joining across all five roles and bookings completing with contracts, protected payment and two-way reviews attached — plus the public-good yardsticks, like the GX Index remaining the UK's only published gig-pay dataset. Live figures are on the Investor Hub landing page and the press room.

Frequently Asked Questions

To make access to live music work depend on talent and reliability rather than connections — by replacing the UK's informal, gatekept booking layer with open infrastructure: discovery, digital contracts, protected payment and verified reviews on equal terms for artists, venues, agents, promoters and organisers.
Directly: GigXchange charges no commission and sells no placement, because both fund gatekeeping. The platform earns a 5% fee only where protected payment is used — it monetises the rails, not access. The full logic is in the Business Model article.
It is checkable. Visibility on GigXchange comes from profile completeness, activity and verified reviews — never from spend; there is no paid placement and no commission. Anyone can verify this by joining free or reading the published pricing.
No — it constrains HOW money is made. The model monetises de-risking the transaction (protected payment) and, over time, professional tooling — revenue lines that get stronger as the open marketplace grows, rather than ones that depend on restricting it.
Artists gain merit-based discovery; venues fill programmes beyond their contacts book; agents and promoters get professional pipeline tooling; event organisers get direct market access; and the wider scene gains price transparency through the GX Index and free national directories.
