Cafe Rene is a long-running, characterful pub, restaurant and live-music venue at 31 Southgate Street in the heart of Gloucester, and a champion of grassroots music for over two decades. There is live music every Wednesday and Friday, with further music on Saturdays often as a DJ, across a wide spread of genres - rock, blues, folk and metal among them. Downstairs is an underground 17th-century cellar bar opened up for live music events and available for private hire, and the venue runs the Cafe Rene Rhythm and Blues Festival every summer, with bands playing inside and outside the pub and performers drawn from around the globe. A PA is provided for performers in this intimate room of roughly 100 capacity.
