Y Plas is the flagship live-music room inside Cardiff University Students' Union on Park Place in the Cathays district of the city. Reached via the steps at the front of the Union, the main hall holds up to 1,000 standing for gigs, with an option to expand to 1,200 — making it one of the larger grassroots-to-mid-scale rooms in Cardiff. The space is fully equipped with an in-house PA and lighting rig and is run as a multi-purpose venue, hosting touring band nights, club nights, student-society showcases and parties across the academic year. With one large bar in the main room, a smaller bar on the mezzanine balcony and two further bars in adjoining rooms, it is built to handle full-capacity crowds. Programming spans indie, rock, electronic and pop, and the room regularly features on national touring routings through Ticketmaster, Skiddle and Cardiff Box Office.
