The Basement is a 100-capacity events space tucked beneath the City Screen Picturehouse cinema in St Martins Courtyard, just off Coney Street in central York. A licensed venue for live music, comedy, spoken word and theatre, it runs regular music nights from emerging bands through to more established acts across various genres, stand-up comedy in an intimate close-up setting (including a monthly Laugh Out Loud Comedy Club), and open-mic nights for local talent. Curated in part with York-based artists' collective Navigators Art, it's a flexible underground room with a PA in place, ten minutes from York's train and bus stations, welcoming both originals and covers.
