The Railway Inn is Winchester's only dedicated music venue, on St Paul's Hill, and over recent years has built a national reputation as one of the UK's premier regional live-music rooms. It runs two stages: Platform 1, the main 120-capacity venue, and Platform 2, a 50-capacity room above the front bar suited to acoustic shows and private events, with performances most evenings across 'The Barn' downstairs and the intimate 'Attic' upstairs. There is no fixed music policy — if there's an audience for it, they'll book it — so the calendar spans touring originals, folk, indie, rock and acoustic, plus comedy, poetry, film screenings and youth projects. With professional PA, an in-house team and a genuinely alternative ethos, it's the cornerstone of Winchester's grassroots scene.

About This Open Mic
The Night
Roots Open Mic Night at The Railway Inn is Winchester's longest-running open mic, going strong every Monday for over 20 years — an early stage for the likes of Frank Turner and Laura Marling. Signups open at 7.30pm with music from 8pm, and it's free to play and to watch. All acoustic instruments are welcome, so just turn up with your instrument and get your name on the list. Seasoned gigger or first-timer, you'll find a warm, supportive room.
What's on stage — equipment and backline at this venue, verified regularly.
