The Cricketers (The Cricketers Arms, a.k.a. Cricketers Bedford Place) is one of Southampton's most vibrant traditional pubs, at 34 Carlton Place in the Bedford Place area (SO15 2DX), with roots dating back to 1861. It's well known for live music: live bands at weekends plus an open-mic night on Mondays and a blues-jam night on Tuesdays. A U-shaped bar pours a mix of keg fonts and five handpumps of local and national real ales, and there's award-winning food alongside. Outside, there are drinking and dining areas to the rear in a private enclosed patio and at the front on the pedestrianised Carlton Place, and the pub backs the annual Bedford Place Summer Festival celebrating local independents. A PA is in place; both original and covers acts are welcome.

The Cricketers Arms on Carlton Place runs its 'Ales and Anthems' open mic every Monday — find the sign-up sheet at the bar and add your name. It's a proper traditional alehouse, so expect a friendly, ale-soaked crowd, and Monday-night deals on food, spirits and ales from just £3. The pub also hosts a popular fortnightly Blues Jam on Tuesdays from 9pm (run by The Groove Bakers), so there's plenty of room to play across the week.
