The Night
The Jolly Sailor is a lively, independently run family pub on Clarence Parade on the Southsea seafront, with a big live-music programme (Ska Fam Jam, Emz All Stars, drag nights) and a 250 capacity. Its open mic is 'Open Mic & More', hosted by EMiLiYAH (aka EMZ) on selected Sundays from 5pm to 7pm: a free creative music evening for singers, musicians, performers and first-timers alike. No booking required, simply turn up and get involved, and karaoke-style lyrics go up on screen and there's a 'Magic Hat' if you want a song picked for you. The 2026 dates published by the pub are 24 May, 7 June, 26 July, 23 August and 27 September, so it runs roughly monthly rather than on a fixed Sunday. The earlier Wednesday 'Jays Broken Mic Night' no longer appears on the pub's own site (Wednesday is now curry and quiz night), so check their Facebook page before travelling for a midweek slot.
