The Night Owl is Birmingham's dedicated Northern Soul and Motown club, opened in July 2015 on Lower Trinity Street in the heart of Digbeth (B9 4AG). Named after the Bobby Paris Northern Soul classic, it claims to be the first ever purpose-built Northern Soul and Motown club and remains the Midlands' only bar of its kind. The 250-capacity room is built for dancing, with a sprung wooden dance-floor by Stax Creations, hand-painted paisley murals and a DJ booth running both vinyl turntables and CDJs through a high-quality sound system. Soul-themed nights such as 'Dig It' and 'Soul Train' sit alongside indie, Britpop and rock parties like 'Come Together'. The club opens every Friday and Saturday plus midweek for special events and live shows, welcoming both DJ sets and live performers.

About This Open Mic
The Night
Open Mic at The Owl launched on Thursday 12 March 2026 and now runs once a month, on the second Thursday, from 7pm till 11pm with free entry. It's an all-talents night (the venue's own billing is 'from singers to puppeteers') so musicians, poets and anyone with an act are welcome to get up. Turn up on the night to grab a slot.
The venue
The Night Owl is Digbeth's dedicated soul and retro club and live venue, open since July 2015 in a c. 250-capacity room on Lower Trinity Street. The rest of the calendar is Motown, northern soul, disco, funk, 60s garage and 90s indie club nights plus tribute acts, live bands and Digbeth Jazz, so the open mic crowd skews music-literate and up for it.
