The Night
Northern Guitars is a guitar shop upstairs and a bar-and-live-music room downstairs on Calls Lane, and its open mic — hosted by 'Live In The Hive' — runs every Monday from 7:30pm, free entry. Because it's a guitar shop, the gear is sorted: two mics, an in-house guitar, plus tuners, capos, plectrums and a phone/tablet stand, so you can rock up empty-handed if you need to. It's known as a genuine first step on the ladder for new artists — supportive, friendly, everyone gets a turn. There's a happy hour 7–8pm with 10% off most drinks to ease you in.
About Northern Guitars Bar
Northern Guitars is a bar and live-music venue on Call Lane in Leeds city centre (LS1) with a guitar shop upstairs that has traded pre-loved and collectors' guitars since 1989 (and beer since 2017). It's fiercely musician-orientated — 'the first step on the ladder' for many local artists — and works closely with Leeds Conservatoire. On Monday evenings it hosts the popular Northern Guitars Open Mic, run by 'Live In The Hive', where everyone is welcomed and supported; the stage provides two microphones, an in-house guitar, tuners, capos, plectrums and a phone/tablet stand. Live music continues at weekends with laid-back gigs midweek, plus regular visits from touring and local bands. Roughly 60-capacity, intimate room.
