Southern Maltings is a volunteer-run community arts centre in a Grade II listed former malting house in the centre of Ware, built in 1839 to produce brown malt. It is a registered charity (the trading name of Ware Arts Centre Limited) and hosts arts, music, jazz, comedy, workshops and community events. Ware Poets began there in 1991 and meet each month for poetry and spoken word evenings, which have a licensed bar.

Ware Poets' monthly poetry evening at Southern Maltings runs on the second Friday of the month, 8pm to 10pm, with doors at 7.45pm. The first half is an open mic where everyone is welcome to bring and read one poem (avoid lengthy ones); the second half is a guest poet reading. Tickets are 5 pounds, 3 pounds for students under 24 and free to ages 18 and under, in advance or on the door. The 8 January 2027 evening is an entirely open mic tribute to Ware Poets co-founder David Perman.
