The Night

The Old George Inn on Old George Yard, off the Cloth Market (NE1 1EZ), is Newcastle's oldest pub — dating to 1582 — and still does live music and DJs at weekends. Its old open mic appears to have stopped, though: the last confirmed listing is around four years out of date. We've left the open-mic details off until a current night can be verified.

About Old George Inn

The Old George Inn is Newcastle's oldest pub, dating from 1582 and tucked just off the Cloth Market near the Bigg Market — an iconic city-centre landmark once frequented by King Charles I. Now part of the Social Pub & Kitchen group, it serves sourdough pizzas and craft beer seven days a week and leans hard into weekend entertainment: Friday and Saturday nights bring live music and DJs to the outdoor courtyard, where the party atmosphere runs late. There's also a free-to-hire function room for private events and the full sports package on the screens. A historic, characterful pub that gives covers and party acts a lively weekend courtyard stage.
